Spring Fire Safety


IAFF Here are some basic tips for spring time that will help keep you fire safe:

  • Check and clean your smoke detectors.

  • Check and clean your carbon monoxide detectors.

  • Make sure electrical outlets and extension cords are not overloaded.

  • Have air conditioning units and other electrical devices checked annually by a licensed professional.

  • Clean your basement and attic of old papers, oily rags and broken furniture.

  • Make sure all fire exits or escape routes that are identified in your Escape Drill are clear of any debris and are not blocked off.

  • Spread mulch at least a foot away from the house with a non-combustible barrier in between such as rock.

  • When you are finished with spring cleaning make sure all cleaning products are stored in a child safety latched drawer or cabinet.

  • Save your old and used hazardous cleaning products for proper disposal at the next Town Hazardous Waste Day.
